A Commitment to Sustainability, Across Every Site
Turn It Off Campaign
Energy efficiency is the foundation of our sustainability program and the first step in our decarbonization journey. Ensuring our business operates as efficiently as possible allows us to reduce energy costs and effectively plan for future projects such as onsite solar installation. In FY23, John Crane launched our organization-wide Turn It Off campaign, which encouraged employees to reduce energy consumption by eliminating it, or “turning it off,” at the source.
Throughout the campaign, John Crane provided resources to help employees identify energy saving opportunities. This initiative has resulted in a material reduction in energy consumption across many of our operational facilities.
Reducing Energy Consumption in Our Czech Republic Facilities
Our Czech Republic operations are one of the largest consumers of energy at John Crane — making efficiency efforts critical to our overall business goals of reducing energy efficiency and GHG. In support of our net zero commitment and Turn It Off campaign, our Czech Republic facilities launched a series of initiatives focused on reducing energy consumption and enhancing efficiency.
Our various site teams began by conducting energy audits and identifying over 100 energy saving opportunities across the Czech Republic sites. The team deployed a prioritized approach to executing energy saving improvements, while maintaining continuity of supply for our customers. These efforts produced significant results that reduced energy usage despite a significant increase in business activities. The sites have also combined to reduce their overall GHG emissions, helping to position John Crane on our path to achieve net-zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions.
Vallejo, Mexico Reforestation Initiative
In 2016, John Crane Vallejo planted 300 trees in Mexico City’s Los Dinamos ecological park. Since then, its employees have significantly expanded these reforestation efforts — planting more than 700 trees at the Vallejo site and three protected areas critical to the local ecosystem.
This reforestation initiative has produced measurable environmental benefits, including enhanced air quality, reduced soil erosion, decreased noise pollution and an expanded habitat for local wildlife. It also functions as a key team-building tool. Now in its eighth year, the initiative continues to unite John Crane Vallejo employees behind a shared passion for environmental stewardship, both at work and in their community.
