John Crane Introduces First Single-use Elastomer Bellows Cartridge Seal

Designed to lower operating costs, provide faster, easier and contamination-free installation to maximize efficiency and reliability

CHICAGO (March 27, 2019) — John Crane, a global leader in rotating equipment solutions, supplying engineered technologies and services to process industries, today announced the introduction of the T4111 Single-use Elastomer Bellows Cartridge Seal. The company’s product is designed to seal centrifugal and rotary pumps, and similar rotary shaft equipment.

T4111 is a low-cost, general-purpose sealing solution designed for low-duty applications. The seal boasts a simplified cartridge seal design; faster, easier and contamination-free installation; a cost-effective-sealing solution; and complies with ANSI and DIN pump standards.

Using proven sealing technologies and design features, T4111 reduced installation times during testing by at least 50 percent compared to elastomer bellows component seals or traditional packing options. In addition, the cartridge design and material selections reduce installation costs, lower maintenance requirements and optimize equipment performance.

“Our goal is to help our customers achieve optimal efficiency while maximizing equipment reliability and performance—no matter the environment,” said Colin Ure, Product Line Director, Universal Sealing Solutions. “Customer interaction and feedback indicated the need to develop a technology that would allow them to combat the increasing pressure to reduce maintenance costs while also accounting for a loss of skilled maintenance personnel. Understanding this, we designed the T4111 to give customers a low-cost, low-maintenance sealing solution.”

Additional features include:

  • Sturdy mechanical drive: Seal head drive mechanism eliminates overstressing of bellows
  • Robust design: Non-pusher elastomer bellow design prevents sleeve fretting damage caused by pusher O-rings
  • Non-clogging, single crest-to-crest wave spring: Not affected by build-up of solids
  • Low drive torque: Improves seal performance and reliability

This new seal is suitable for aqueous solutions such as water/wastewater treatments and applications within the food and beverage, and mining and metals processing markets, and provides an easy upgrade from the use of traditional packing and component seals.

Ure further states that, “Through its slew of benefits such as low operating cost, contamination-free installation and water leakage savings, this seal will provide our customers the ability to bolster water conservation efforts and adhere to emissions regulations.”
