CHICAGO (October, 2023)John Crane, a global leader in rotating equipment solutions, supplying engineered technologies and services to process industries, is pleased to announce its South African business achieved Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) Level 3 contributor status following a successful partnership with Bunengi Group.

B-BBEE is a government initiative in South Africa that seeks to transform economic structures. The main purpose is to enable previously disadvantaged groups to participate in the South African economy in a meaningful way. Achieving B-BBEE Level 3, with the highest level being Level 1, aligns with John Crane’s commitment to being a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace.

The Bunengi Group is a highly respected, well-established, and broadly diversified Black-woman-owned enterprise headquartered in the Sandton Precinct in Johannesburg. The strategic intent of the Bunengi Group is focused on investing, developing and growing Afro-centric businesses that can make a meaningful and lasting contribution to the economic development and prosperity of the African continent and its people.

“John Crane is proud to contribute to the transformation and participation of previously disadvantaged groups in the South African economy that will drive the country’s future growth,” said Ruben Alvarez, Division Vice President, Strategy, Portfolios & Marketing. “Supporting the broader economy through inclusive and equitable business practices aligns with the core values that define how we work with our partners, customers, vendors and suppliers. The B-BBEE accreditation was achieved on the back of a broad and comprehensive empowerment approach that includes ownership, management control, employment equity, skills development, preferential procurement, and talent acquisition practices, and we are honored to be a part of this initiative.”
