Field-tested Solutions
John Crane is a recognized world leader in the design, manufacture and supply of solutions for pharmaceutical processors. Our Technology Testing Centers represent the industry’s most advanced development facilities. To meet USP Class VI specifications and maintain ISO 9001:2008 certification, we test our components using element analysis tools — CSTEDY and CTRANS — that simulate seal face behavior in real-world conditions.
Through rigorous testing and continual improvement, we’ve designed a number of industry-specific components that help optimize performance, efficiency and reliability. Some address specific fluid-handling problems, while others mitigate friction, wear and contamination with non-contacting, spiral groove lift-off technology. Many of our products even provide 100 percent containment of fugitive emissions, and we have more than 200 global rapid-response facilities available anytime for service, support and repair.
Here are some of the products that we’ve specially designed to meet the needs of our pharmaceutical processing customers:
Vessel and Agitator Seals
Type 7800 Series Universal Vessel Seal: Provides maximum flexibility while ensuring that product purity standards within the vessel are met
Type 770 Rotating Seal: Proprietary dry-running carbon graphite ring design promotes extremely long runs and low maintenance requirements
Type 32i Dry-running Seal: Proprietary "Intelli-Face®" technology eliminates running noise and satisfies OSHA requirements
Split Seals
Type 75FS Dry-running Split Seal: Held together with an elastomer-cushioned retainer that completely eliminates distortion
O-ring Pusher Seals
Type 586 Double Seal: Provides self-draining, wide-open elements that are easily sterilized; exposes only minimal hardware to the process
Type 5600 Series: Modular design with full array of interchangeable seal heads and hardware to increase flexibility and simplify spare part inventory requirements
Type 4600 Series: Compact, economical single seal that provides excellent seal life
Non-contacting Seals
Type 2800 Series: Non-contacting seal eliminates liquid lubrication to ensure 100 percent product purity
Seal Support Systems
WCH/WCV/K2S: Water-cooled heat exchangers for use where water is readily available
GR1/1C: General duty reservoir that can withstand pressure up to 16.3 bar while providing buffer/barrier fluid to a dual-seal arrangement
GR2/2C: General duty reservoir that can withstand pressure up to 30 bar while providing buffer/barrier fluid to a dual-seal arrangement
GR3/3C: General duty reservoir that can withstand pressure up to 73 bar (stainless steel) or 62 bar (carbon steel) while providing buffer/barrier fluid to a dual-seal arrangement
GP-S/GP-D: Non-API gas control panel for filtering, regulating and monitoring gas supply to gas-lubricated pump seals
Cyclone Separators: Typically used in an API Plan 31 arrangement and incorporated in the seal flush line (API Plan 11 ) from the discharge of the pump
Safeunit Ultima: Specially designed to control seal water flow and pressure in extreme conditions
Safeclean: Removes impurities and particles, providing clean seal water for stuffing boxes and mechanical seals
Power Transmission Couplings
A Series: Urethane element couplings known for quick installation without moving prime mover or driven equipment
Packing
Styles 1056 and 1057: Designed with FDA-compliant PTFE fibers and lubricant to prevent contamination
CVH/CVU: Automatic packings containing no lubricants or dispersions, well suited for non-contaminating services
Filtration Systems
The journey from a pharmaceutically active compound in solution to a ready-to-serve solid product passes through several process filtration stages, such as spray or fluidized bed drying, grinding, and mechanical separation stages, like sieving, sifting, or classifying.
